How to run ads on ChatGPT.
I've built two campaigns. I'll show you both, screen by screen, and you'll build yours alongside me. Account setup through live ad in thirty minutes — then the four-minute version, where Claude builds the whole thing for you.
You already know how this goes. You heard about cheap Facebook ads in 2012, about three years after the people who got rich on them. Same with Google. It never feels like it's happening while it's happening.

Eighty-six days from locked to open.
ChatGPT ads launched on February 9, 2026 with a $200,000 minimum spend, CPM-only bidding, and access limited to large brands and holding companies. In April the floor dropped to $50,000. On May 5 OpenAI killed it entirely, opened a self-serve Ads Manager to every US business, and added cost-per-click bidding, a measurement pixel and a conversions API.
It is now live in nine markets — the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Brazil and Mexico — with 31 European countries rolling out. ChatGPT reaches roughly 920 million people a week and about 95% of them are on the free tier, which is the tier that sees ads.
Reported figures put OpenAI's ad revenue at over $100 million within six weeks of launch, against a $2.5 billion target for the year. Nearly 80% of small and mid-sized businesses said they wanted in while the price floor kept them out. That floor is gone, and most of them still don't know it.
A campaign gets built. Not a strategy.
Screen shared the whole way. Pause whenever you need to and build alongside me.
What this is, and who it reaches
How the ad unit works, and the honest test of whether your customer is even reachable here — before you spend a dollar.
Account and pixel
Registering as an advertiser, and installing the measurement pixel first, because you cannot go back and collect data you didn't track.
The campaign
Objective, geography, tracking parameters, and the budget field that quietly defaults to $100 a day.
Context hints
The part everyone coming from Google gets wrong. There are no keywords here. You describe a person in a moment asking a question — and that is the whole skill.
The cards
Why four and not one, the real character ceiling the field won't tell you about, and why a card this small cannot sell anything — only qualify.
The page you send them to
Where most first campaigns waste their money, and the two rules I follow on every landing page I build for an ad.
The Claude build
The same campaign, again, in about four minutes — built by Claude in the browser while I watch. Full prompt included, and the four rules that keep it from spending your money incorrectly.
Reading the numbers
The three figures that matter at day fourteen, what each one tells you to change, and what to ignore.
My campaigns have not made a sale yet.
Twenty clicks. Zero form fills so far. I'm not going to show you a screenshot of a hundred-thousand-dollar month on a platform that has only been open to small businesses since May, because nobody honest has one.
What I have is two live campaigns, a card beating the published average click-through, a cost per click under my cap, and thirty minutes of knowing exactly which button does what and which three of them cost me money. That is what an early channel looks like from the inside, and it's what you're buying.
Skip this if any of these are true.
- Your customer is a senior professional at a large company. They're almost certainly on a paid ChatGPT tier and will never see your ad.
- You want a channel that pays back this week. It won't, and neither did mine.
- You want theory, frameworks, or a community. This is one video of somebody clicking buttons and explaining why.
- You're outside the nine live markets. Wait until yours opens, then come back.
I run the campaigns I'm showing you.
I'm Joe Chancellor. I run Rebel Video, a YouTube ads agency for local and regional service businesses — roofing, solar, home improvement, law firms. Before that I spent about a decade as a trial attorney.
I'm not a ChatGPT ads guru. There's no such thing yet; the platform has been open to people like us for a few months. I'm an operator who opened the account early, spent his own money, and wrote down what happened.
